Who can get a personal loan?
To obtain a personal loan, you must meet these conditions:
- Be resident in Luxembourg (or Belgium)
- Receive regular income from Luxembourg (or Belgium)
- Be of legal age (over 18)
- Not be registered as a defaulter or subject to a wage attachment
Your income may come from employment or the civil service, a pension, replacement benefits, or self-employment based in Belgium. You must be between 18 and 75 years old (80 for homeowners).
A Belgian resident is treated exactly like a Luxembourg resident: same conditions, same rates. A co-borrower with no income is possible if the borrower's income is sufficient. Residents of other countries are not eligible.
Full details are on the page setting out the conditions for taking out credit. We review every credit application personally before deciding whether to grant the loan.
What salary do you need to borrow?
It all depends on your income and the commitments you already have (rent, other loans, etc.). We look at two things: the share of your income that goes on repaying your commitments, including the new instalment, and the amount you have left to live on each month, which must not fall below a minimum.
That share should ideally stay below half of your income, and can go further if your income is higher. What you have left to live on must be at least €1,100 for a single person and €1,500 for a couple.
For example, for a loan of €20,000 over 5 years, the monthly instalment is about 402,41 €: that is the amount that has to fit into your budget. Work out your borrowing capacity from your income and outgoings.

A loan with "no proof required": what does that mean?
You do not have to prove what the money will be used for: no invoice, no quotation, no order form. The personal loan can finance any project, for an amount between €2,500 and €100,000.
As with any credit, however, we ask for the usual documents: identity, income, address.
A personal loan: for which projects?
The Credit 24 personal loan lets you borrow a sum of money that you are free to use as you wish:
- Buying furniture or new furnishings
- Redecorating your house or flat
- Financing your move: costs, rental deposit and so on
- A wedding or other family events
- Medical care, cosmetic surgery, dental implants and so on
- Travelling abroad
- Work on a house or flat located abroad
- Repaying a family debt
- Financing training or studies
- Making purchases
- Buying a car or motorbike from a private seller
- Any other project
Buying a car or motorbike from a private seller?
A vehicle bought from a private seller is financed with the personal loan: the car loan is reserved for purchases from a professional seller, dealership or garage.
The loan then has that vehicle as its purpose, but it is not limited to its price: you can add other expenses to it. We will ask for the sale agreement and the vehicle's registration certificate.
How does it differ from a credit card or a cash reserve?
The personal loan is an instalment loan that gives you a structured, transparent arrangement. Unlike credit cards or cash reserves, everything about our personal loan is fixed from the outset: the amount borrowed, the repayment term and the monthly instalment.
With a cash reserve, you have an amount you can draw on at any time, but you usually repay only a minimum each month. These forms of credit often carry higher interest rates. The result is that the capital falls slowly and the total cost can rise quickly.
A personal loan, by contrast, lets you know exactly when your credit will be fully repaid. You move forward with a clear end date, with no unpleasant surprises and a full view of your budget.
If your credit cards never seem to clear, or you pay substantial interest every month, it may be worth choosing a more controlled solution such as debt consolidation.
How does it differ from other instalment loans?
The main difference concerns what the credit is for.
The personal loan is an unallocated credit, whereas other instalment loans are allocated credit.
With an allocated credit, such as a car loan or a home improvement loan, the borrower must provide a supporting document (invoice, order form, quotation and so on) confirming precisely what the funds are for.
With a personal loan, on the other hand, the sum borrowed is paid straight into your bank account without any proof of what the funds are for.
Advantages and limits of a personal loan
The advantages
- Free use: you use the money as you wish, with no proof of spending.
- Fixed rate: your monthly instalment stays the same until the end.
- Everything known in advance: the end date and the total cost of your credit.
- Early repayment: possible at any time, future interest is cancelled, subject to a fee of 1% of the capital repaid early (or 0.5% less than a year before the scheduled end). Details in the frequently asked questions.
- Deductible interest: if you file your tax return in Luxembourg, within the limits set by tax law; every year we send you the certificate to attach to your return. Details in the frequently asked questions.
- Several lenders: a single application gives you access to several financial partners.
Good to know
- Allocated credit: a car, home improvement or energy loan often has a lower rate, but it requires an invoice or a quotation.
- Term and cost: a longer term lowers the monthly instalment but increases the total cost.
- Commitment: the monthly instalment is a firm commitment, to be built into your budget for the whole term of the credit.
