Debt consolidation: the benefits
A lower instalment
The main benefit of debt consolidation is the reduction of your overall monthly instalment (see the example below). You can then put that monthly saving towards other spending.
One payment date
No more forgotten payments or juggling several due dates. Once your credit agreements are consolidated, you have a single monthly payment on a fixed date.
Finance other projects
If your financial situation allows it, the consolidation can include an additional sum of money to finance other projects.
Debt consolidation at a glance
- The principle: your current loans are repaid by a single new loan, with a single monthly instalment.
- Loans covered: instalment loans (personal loan, car loan, home improvement loan, energy loan and so on), credit cards and revolving credit, bank overdraft. Not mortgage loans.
- Amount: from €2,500 to €100,000, including the balances of the loans bought back and any additional sum.
- Term: from 24 to 120 months, at a fixed rate: your monthly instalment never changes.
- Rates: as at 24 September 2026, from 7,95 % (fixed APR), depending on the amount, the term and your application. How they change month by month.
- Answer: generally within 1 to 4 working hours.
- Repayment of your loans: Credit 24 pays each credit institution directly.
- Who for: residents of Luxembourg or Belgium with regular income from either of those two countries, alone or as a couple.
- Arrangement fees: Credit 24 never charges any, neither for the application nor for the credit. You only pay the interest.
- Tax: if you file your tax return in Luxembourg, the interest you pay is deductible, within the limits set by law.

Which loans can be consolidated?
- Instalment loans (consumer credit): personal loan, car loan, home improvement loan, energy loan and so on.
- Credit cards and revolving credit (cash reserves), and bank overdrafts.
- With Belgian or Luxembourg institutions, whatever your country of residence.
Mortgage loans cannot be consolidated.
As a couple, in an application where you borrow together, we can buy back the loans in the name of one of you, of the other, or of both.
Debts that are not loans (taxes, bills, private debt) are not consolidated as such, but their amount can be added to the new loan, so that everything fits into a single monthly instalment.
An additional sum can also be borrowed on top, if you wish, to finance another project. There is no fixed limit: it depends on your situation.
Is debt consolidation a good idea?
It is often a good idea if you have several loans running, especially credit cards or revolving credit, whose rates are generally higher. You are left with a single monthly instalment, on a fixed date, and it is usually lower than the sum of the old ones.
You should know, however, that a longer term lowers the monthly instalment but can increase the total cost of the credit. That is not always the case: it all depends on the rates of your current loans and on the term you choose. We give you the terms of the credit before you decide.
Consolidation can also cover a single loan: to benefit from a lower rate, extend the term or add a sum to use freely.
Who can get debt consolidation?
To obtain debt consolidation, you must meet these conditions:
- Be resident in Luxembourg (or Belgium)
- Receive regular income from Luxembourg (or Belgium)
- Be of legal age (over 18)
- Not be registered as a defaulter or subject to a wage attachment
The loans to be consolidated must have been repaid without incident, that is to say with no unresolved listing at the National Bank of Belgium, even for Luxembourg residents. A listed loan that has not been regularised prevents the application from being accepted.
A Belgian resident is treated exactly like a Luxembourg resident: same conditions, same rates. Residents of other countries are not eligible.
Full details are on the page setting out the conditions for taking out credit. We review every credit application personally before deciding whether to grant the loan.
How does debt consolidation work, step by step?
Your application
Online or by telephone, with no obligation. For each loan to be consolidated, give the credit institution, the amount borrowed, the term, the monthly instalment and the start date.
Our answer
Generally within 1 to 4 working hours: this is the agreement in principle.
Your statements and documents
The early repayment statement gives the exact balance of each loan. You can usually get it from your customer area with the institution concerned, or by asking it for one. You can request it before you apply or after the agreement in principle: if the balances differ from what was expected, we adjust the amount of the consolidation. We also ask for the usual documents: identity, income, address.
Signing
At our office, usually within 1 to 2 days.
Repayment of your loans
Credit 24 pays each credit institution the amount on its statement directly. Any early repayment fee is already included in it: you have nothing more to pay. If the consolidation includes an additional sum, it is transferred to your account.
Once all the statements have been received, a consolidation moves as quickly as a personal loan.
Advantages and limits of debt consolidation
The advantages
- A single monthly instalment: one payment, on a fixed date, instead of several.
- An instalment that is often lower: your monthly budget has more room, as in the example above.
- Fixed rate: your monthly instalment stays the same until the end.
- A known end date: unlike credit cards and revolving credit, you know when everything will be repaid.
- Nothing to advance: we pay your credit institutions directly, fees included.
- An additional sum, if you wish: to finance another project within the same loan.
- Early repayment: possible at any time, future interest is cancelled, subject to a fee of 1% of the capital repaid early (or 0.5% less than a year before the scheduled end). Details in the frequently asked questions.
- Deductible interest: if you file your tax return in Luxembourg, within the limits set by tax law; every year we send you the certificate to attach to your return. Details in the frequently asked questions.
Good to know
- Term and cost: a longer term lowers the monthly instalment but can increase the total cost; not always, it depends on the rates of your current loans.
- No mortgages: mortgage loans cannot be consolidated.
- Without incident: a listed loan that has not been regularised prevents consolidation.
- Commitment: the monthly instalment is a firm commitment, to be built into your budget for the whole term of the credit.
