Loans in Luxembourg for Belgian residents
You live in Belgium and work in Luxembourg, or in Belgium? Credit 24 finances Belgian residents on the same conditions, at the same rates and with the same documents as Luxembourg residents.
The essentials for a Belgian resident
- Who for: Belgian residents who receive a regular income from Luxembourg or Belgium, cross-border workers or not.
- Same conditions as a Luxembourg resident: same loans, same rates, same documents.
- Loans: personal loan, debt consolidation, home improvement loan, energy loan and car loan.
- Answer: generally within 1 to 4 working hours.
- Arrangement fees: Credit 24 never charges any, neither for the application nor for the loan. You only pay the interest.
- Tax: if you receive an income from Luxembourg and file your tax return there, the interest you pay is deductible, within the limits set by law.
- Not eligible: residents of other countries, in particular cross-border workers who live in France or Germany.
I am a Belgian cross-border worker: can I borrow in Luxembourg?
Yes. A Belgian resident is treated exactly like a Luxembourg resident: same conditions, same loans, same rates.
It does not matter whether your income comes from a Luxembourg or a Belgian employer: it must be regular and come from one of those two countries. It may come from employment or the civil service, a pension, replacement benefits, or self-employment based in Belgium. You must be between 18 and 75 years old (80 for homeowners).
A co-borrower with no income is possible if the borrower's income is sufficient. Full details are on the loan conditions page.
What if I live in France or Germany?
Credit 24 cannot finance you: only residents of Luxembourg and Belgium are eligible, whatever the country you work in.
Which documents do I need to provide?
The same as a Luxembourg resident. You send them once your application has been accepted, unless our advisers need to check something before deciding.
- Identity: a valid Belgian identity card; for non-Belgians, a valid identity card or passport and a valid residence card.
- Income: your last 3 payslips, from Luxembourg or Belgium (unless you were hired more recently); for self-employment in Belgium, the most recent tax assessment notice (AER); for a pension, sickness benefits or unemployment benefits, your bank statements.
- Depending on the case: employment contract, lease, proof of address, proof of ownership, supporting documents for the purpose of the loan.
The full list is on the required documents page.
Which databases are consulted?
As for every application, lenders consult the Central Individual Credit Register of the National Bank of Belgium, whatever your country of residence. You must not be registered there, nor be in a debt settlement procedure, nor have your salary garnished.
Full details are on the credit databases consulted page.
How long does it take?
We generally reply within 1 to 4 working hours. Once we have received your documents, you sign your contract at our office, usually within 1 to 2 days. The money is generally paid on the day you sign, and within 24 hours at most, by transfer to an account in your name (as holder or joint holder).
Can a Belgian cross-border worker deduct the interest on their loan?
Yes, if they receive an income from Luxembourg and file their tax return there: the interest paid is then deductible, as for a Luxembourg resident, within the limits set by tax law. We send you an interest certificate every year to attach to your tax return.
How much can I borrow?
We apply the same guidelines as for a Luxembourg resident. First, the share of your income taken up by your commitments, including the new instalment: ideally less than half. Second, what you have left to live on each month once those commitments are paid: at least €1,100 for a single person and €1,500 for a couple.
Work out your borrowing capacity from your income and outgoings, in a few seconds.
